Supporting Significant Life Events In Health And Social Care

Supporting Significant Life Events in health and social care

Task 1 ( 1.1,1.2.1.3and 2.1,2.3)

This task concerns your understanding of the range of support available to individuals experiencing a significant life event and your ability to analyse responses made by health and social care services to support individuals experiencing significant life events.

Scenario

You are the manager of a health or solcia care organisation such as a care home and you are required to report to the management board on the effectiveness of the service when supporting people through significant life events.

You will need to prepare a report that:

  1. Evaluates the effectiveness of organisational policies and procedures in supporting individuals and their social networks affected by significant life events (1.1)
  2. Explains how others in social networks may provide support (1.2)
  3. Evaluates the suitability of external sources of support for those affected by significant life events (1.3)
  4. Analyses the possible organisational responses to the need to support individuals experiencing significant life events (2.1)
  5. Makes recommendations for improving the support available in a health and social care organisation for individuals and their social networks when affected by significant life events.(2.3)

It is suggested that the best way to do this is to use a case study of someone who has been supported through the significant life event they are experiencing. The report would cover what happened to them, in terms of support, from when they enter your health or social care situation/facility, what happens to them within the facility and when they exit.

The report is about the support and should not focus too much on the actual life event but the support provided or available. It should be supported by examples from the case study and references to appropriate theory taken from the available literature.

Task 2 (2.2)

This task completes the analysis of responses made by health and social care services to support individuals experiencing significant life events.

The focus here is on your own personal contributions to the support of individuals experiencing significant life events. (2.2)

You need to prepare a personal reflection of your own personal contribution to the support of individuals experiencing significant life events.  This may be from a workplace or personal experience.  It is acknowledged that this may be difficult for you; therefore the content of your reflection is at your own discretion.
