Reflective Essay This assessment task requires you to write a reflective essay on the topic below, in 1500 words. All references should be appropriately cited using Harvard or APA style.

Based on your experience in this unit, reflect on your role as a 21st century learner and professional and how it has developed as Reflective Essaypart of your experiences as a consumer, producer and sharer of information for professional and academic communication.

Specifically address the following points:

  • Discuss how your 21st century work skills have developed as part of your experiences in this unit as a consumer, producer and sharer of online sources of information. Provide examples to demonstrate.( briefly define the skills and give examples of how you developed in this unit of online study)
  • Discuss how the development of an informational resource, or your work in the discussion board, has helped you understand how to evaluate the credibility of online sources in an academic environment. Draw on relevant learning theories to help explain your response.( use the Metzger five criteria for evaluating credibility to support your point)
  • Consider aspects of the online world you have encountered in COM10003 (Blackboard Collaborate). What is it about these spaces that enhance collaboration? What is it about these spaces that make collaborating more difficult? Identify some of the advantages and limitations and reflect on how you might exploit advantages and overcome the limitations.

Reflective essay

In this essay I will discuss my experiences of how I developed the 21st century work skills in this course as a consumer, producer and sharer of online sources of information. I will reflect on how the creation of informational resource and collaboration in the discussion board has enhanced my knowledge and understanding on how to research, use and critically evaluate the online resources for credibility for an academic work. I will also reflect upon the advantages and disadvantages of studying and learning in the online environment. I will also reflect on how I overcome the challenges I encountered in collaborating in Learning and Communication Online unit, as well as how I will continue to exploit advantages and overcome the limitations for future online collaboration.

Studying In this unit has been a great experience of learning as I have developed some important skills that are needed for personal and academic work such as social intelligence, virtual collaboration, computational thinking and new- media literacy (Institute for the Future, 2011). Social intelligence is defined as the ability to connect to others in a deep and direct way, to sense and stimulate reactions and desired interactions (Institute for the Future, 2011). Virtual collaboration is ability to work productively, drive engagement, and demonstrate presence as a member of a virtual team. Computational thinking is the ability to translate vast amounts of data into abstract concepts and to understand data-based reasoning. New media literacy is ability to critically assess and develop content that uses new media forms, and to leverage these media for persuasive communication. These skills have been developed through the interaction with my fellow students and teachers from different disciplines across different part of the world.
