ABSTRACT

Different countries have their own culture and languages. That creates a boundary between the Western culture and Middle Eastern culture. However, managers of different countries have to work among them. That is why they need to know the culture and language of their subordinates and to understand the culture of other countries. This study shows the difference between different cultures and languages for international project management managers. In the business movement, Western nations seek after the quality perspective of fairness; endure in the sensible guideline of equity, and twofold winning, which is clearly diverse to Chinese administrators’ technique of single winning which has the monetary characters of Western nations in early days. In present day society, west and east arranges have advantage cognizance, and they all speak to certain advantage primary bodies, and they all work for their own particular financial advantages. Nonetheless, occidental’s advantage awareness is more broad, on the grounds that the base of Western culture is the advanced business sector economy which takes the business sector trade and market rivalry as principle characters, and the human relationship shaped in that society predominantly is advantage relationship and to regard each other’s way of life. They see the arrangement as rivalry, and they jump the aftereffect of transaction would bring genuine financial advantages for their gathering and bring advancement open doors for their individual future.

Chapter 1: Introduction

1.1 Introduction:

The global business environment is multicultural, managers who belong to this multicultural business community experience cultural differences while managing the successful project completion. There has been little research that has focused on the impact of country and culture in the practice of project management, and the international project is located is located mostly outside the territory and it lacks in the normal sphere of operation. This paper helps to identify the most known and accepted theories of cross-cultural differences in two different areas. Vanishing corporate geographic limits and the noteworthy worldwide cross-movement of business are variables that all designing consultancy firms must face in the worldwide commercial center. Residential firms need to manage a continually expanding number of impacts with a specific end goal to work successfully in the worldwide environment. Most project supervisors, universal temporary workers are mindful of the circumstance in the worldwide field and they more often than not embrace pre-emptive measures to overcome or provide food for difficulties in business.

This paper is based on the study that has been undertaken to compare the project management culture in the two-region Western region area and middle east region area. The research evaluates and presents an analysis of the project management culture between the Western and Middle East regions. The Culture has a great influence on the management practices in various different aspects. This can affect the team performance of the project, which may have a direct influence on the national values related to the culture. This study analyzes the project management strategies and culture followed between the Middle East and Western regions. In this case, the construction manager is not to be considered as an exception. The research highlights that the different project culture has a direct impact on the construction management of the Western and Middle East regions.

1.2 Significance of the research:

The research will provide a comparative study of the project management culture between the Middle East area and the Western area regions. This research will highlight the various points that have an influence on the project management strategies between these two regions. The Middle East region has some cultural and management strategies that make it different from the rest of the countries in the world. This research will show that the differences are present between the Middle East and the Western regions in relation to power distance and uncertainty avoidance.

1.3 Rationale of the research:

The researcher has found that it is necessary to evaluate the importance of the project management including the discrimination of the project management cultures between the Middle East region and Western region area.

In the next twenty years, the Middle East countries will witness unprecedented construction program levels. Additionally, there are a considerable number of projects are associated with world cup 2022 in Qatar and in Dubai. The increasing demand in terms of population growth and economy has emphasized the need in order to renovate the infrastructure in the Middle East and Western area regions. The research shed light on the challenges and the risks involved in the construction market including the critical unstable political condition of the Middle East and the Western regions. According to Rams et al. (2012, p.55) recovery in the UK is forecasting and it has begun after 2011, the economy is rising at a pace so the number of project handling will also increase.  Various options are opening for the project management sector along with

The international projects dealing will also increase; therefore, this will add an extra burden in comparing the cultures of the two countries. The key challenges that the different project management team faces are the areas that need to be focused upon.

1.4 Research Aim:

The researcher’s aim for this particular proposal is to examine the project management cultures between the Western area region and the Middle East region. The evaluation process will help the organizations particularly the construction companies of the Western regions and in the Middle East regions where the network-based practices have developed and introduced in the construction management programs.

1.5 Research Objectives:

As per the topic of the research, the research objectives of this research will be the following:

  • To identify the differences of project management culture between the middle east and Western  area regions
  • To analyze the challenges and issues faced in the project management of the construction companies in particular
  • To identify the influence of culture, work values, and environment on the project management strategies.
  • To suggest some recommendations in relation to the quality of work and the adequate rate of performance in the project management.

1.6 Research Questions:

  • How to identify the differences in the project management culture of the middle east and Western area regions?
  • What is the influence of culture, work values, and environment on the project management strategies?
  • What are the appropriate suggestions for the issues and challenges?

1.7 Significance of the research:

This study will help to evaluate the various challenges that are met by the project managers in the chosen region. It also focused on the methods of hypothesis testing in the international project in order to pose chief challenges for leading and successfully managing several numbers of additional factors in the Middle East and Asian countries.  The research indicates how the professionals in the project management field can gauge the understanding and the leadership skills that are necessary irrespective of the workplace and culture.

1.9: Summary:

 This chapter has focused on the aims, objectives and deliverables of the study, along with the identification for the problem and rationale of the project. It has described the theareas that need to be focused before conducting the study. All the project managers those who are working on different international projects have identified that political, safety, economy, security, geography and infrastructure are the areas that are vital in order to run a project successfully. The project managers can directly influence the environmental surrounding or the transitional projects that are hindering the growth of the project in an international arena. The project managers those who work across the borders find this type of task daunting for the business.
