STUDY OF FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM USING ACOUSTIC EMISSION TECHNIQUE
The engine is the device which produce mechanical work with the conversion of thermal energy into mechanical energy.The project deals with the investigation of fuel injection system via acoustic emission technique. Before going to discuss about the fuel injection system need to deliver the basic concepts of engines. Normally engines are classified as two main category one is Internal Combustion Engine and the other one is External combustion engine. The project fully deals IC engines (Internal Combustion) so obviously going to investigate about the IC engines. Generally IC engine are classified as two types as follows (Fernando Salazar, 1995)
- Spark Ignition Engine
- Compression Ignition Engine
The Spark Ignition engines does not required any fuel injection system so possibly neglect this one from our investigation and it’s also named as petrol engine. The compression ignition engine (CI) have fuel injection system to perform combustion process and it’scommonly named as diesel engine.
The figure 1 shows the compression ignition engine the parts of the engines and the fuel injection system components are appropriately plotted as shown in figure.
As have describes earlier the compression ignition engine require fuel injector to deliver the combustion process. The working principle and operating performance of the compression ignition engine are performed in literature review section. Initially going to discuss about the fuel injection system importance and its roles in compression ignition engine. The following section investigate background and the scope of the project briefly.
1.1 Background Research
The engine efficiency fully depends on the rate of combustion, but the combustion performance are concerned with fuel injection rate(Fernando Salazar, 1995). If the fuel injection rate are appropriate means the combustion performance also deliver proper operation. So the fuel injection system is one of the important system used in compression ignition engine to deliver the optimum performance. This project deals with the investigation of the fuel injection system using acoustic emission techniques.The figure 2 shows the fuel injection system on compression ignition engine.
