The term “POLICE” points to the authorized and capacitated group of people, delegated with the duty to protect civilian’s lives, property, establish law and order, eliminate criminal activities, limiting civil disorder (Bayley, 1995). The   department of Police acts within a geographical boundary and are legitimized to use their power by the state. The role of the police is to provide the internal security of the citizens; whereas military forces protect the country from foreign attacks and provides the external security for the whole country (Tilley, 2003). In this present annotation, the key roles and responsibilities of Police service have been discussed and looked into in detail. The report focuses on the key skills and attributes of a police person, which are required to perform his delegated task in an efficient way.2.0 BODY OF THE REPORT
Michel Foucault believed that government paid police enforcement is a concept developed by French scholars early during 18th century (Sheptycki, 2000). As per the then western culture and beliefs police did have a social duty, which encompassed more than simple law establishment under certain jurisdiction (Ratcliffe, 2007). The police had to look into matters of demographic importance, empower the population, and strengthening the people’s community. The responsibilities embrace city planning supervision to investigate a murder, government policy and rules incorporation and also concerns for public health. According to sociologist Max Weber, Police is a state machinery to control law and order, and the physical force is employed to minimize disorders in society, that interrupts state functioning, and operational policies (Nadalmann, 1993). The belief of Marxism was police is state handled machinery and force to establish capitalism and one of the pressure equipment of bourgeoisie, to use coercive actions on working class people, and suppress them for enslavement (Bayley, 1995).
