INTRODUCTION
Crime rates have always been the cause of concern for the security of nay country. Here the discussion is particularly of Australia where recent survey has found out that the most pressing problem according to the largest percentage of population of Australia is the acts of violence and crime in the country. This was competed with other issues like interest rates, industrial disputes, and issues of economic nature (Don Weatherburn, Elizabeth Matka, Brownwyn Lind, 1996). The finding was startling and was an indication that people of Australia give preference to the security and matters of crime and violence and are the most concerning problems for a bulk of the population. People were concerned about their neighborhood and families as the crime rate is increasing in the country.
However, the spending on the inhibition of the crime and violence rate is not one of the priorities of the Australian government. Government spends far less amount of money on the matters related with crime than other issues. There is thus a contradiction in the beliefs of population and the government and they are not on a common ground (Don Weatherburn, Elizabeth Matka, Brownwyn Lind, 1996). The government should decide where they should be spending their money as their priority is the health and education sectors instead of crime and law.
