Audi in Indian Market
German luxury carmaker, Audi, which is part of Volkswagen group, launched its new A8 Sedan in India. The car which belongs to premium category is priced at Rs 90 lakh approximately. Despite the high price tag that is attached to the car, the company expects full-year sales to top over 4,500 units, showing a 50% growth with this newly launched vehicle.This launch comes as a part of the rapid expansion strategy that Audi, the third-biggest luxury carmaker after BMW and Mercedes, has taken to invade th
e market of India. They are trying to target the upper middle class segment of huge Indian market that is blessed with a very impressive purchasing power. “The Indian market is expanding rapidly and Audi wants to enhance its product line-up to grow exponentially in the market,” Audi India MD Michael Perschke said.
The company sold 3,003 units in the Indian market last year and said it has plans to expand its network. “In 2010 we maintained the Number 1 position in Europe and China. Audi also became the fastest-growing luxury brand in the US and India. 2011 will see Audi India announcing many initiatives on product and network expansion,” Perschke said. The A8 sedan competes with models like Merecedes S-Class and BMW 7-Series. Audi’s range in India includes the A4 and A6 sedans and Q5 and Q7 SUVs.
